31, 1517 marks a momentous day in world history. Martin Luther nailed
his 95 theses to the door of a Wittenberg church, starting the
Protestant Reformation. Luther’s theology challenged Roman Catholicism
by emphasizing how salvation is based on God’s free gift of grace
through faith in His Son Jesus Christ – not good works. He also taught
the Bible is the only source of divinely-inspired knowledge and that
people could read it for themselves instead of relying on the authority
of the Catholic Church.
