THE GREAT SEAL

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the 7th day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the 7th day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the 7th day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. Genesis 2:1-3

The seal of the president of the United States is used to mark correspondence from the president of the United States to the U.S. Congress, and is also used as a symbol of the presidency itself. The central design, based on the Great Seal of the United States first adopted by the U.S. Congress on June 20, 1782, is the official coat of arms of the U.S. presidency and also appears on the presidential flag.

A king’s seal is like a signature, password, and stamp of authority all in one—authenticating royal documents and protecting them from tampering. Historically, a king’s seal served as a symbol of the monarch's sovereign authority.

All royal seals—especially historical ones—tend to share three core elements that identify them as official and authoritative symbols of the monarch:

  • The monarchs name
  • The monarchs official title
  • A description of their domain

Did you know that God also has an official seal?

A sign is something that serves as a symbol or indication of something else. It can be a physical object, a gesture, or even a written or spoken word. For example, as mentioned above, seal is a sign of authority, ownership, authenticity, and approval. Similarly, a signature is a mark, or distinctive sign, that is also used by an individual to identify themselves, authorize or approve something, or take responsibility or ownership.

God's seal, or signature, is the Sabbath. God "marks" (or records) those who keep his commandments, including his Sabbath, as his.

Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you.  Exodus 31:13

Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. Exodus 31:16–17

Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples. Isaiah 8:16

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus 20:8-11

The Sabbath commandment is the only one of the 10 commandments that contains all necessary core elements of an official royal seal:

  • Identifies God by name ("the Lord"),
  • His title ("Creator"),
  • and His territory ("heaven and earth").

The Sabbath is a sign between God and his people and the keeping of the Sabbath by God's people is a perpetual, never changing, sign of his covenant.

Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jeremiah 31:31-33

My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. Psalms 89:34

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be call least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:17-19

If ye love me, keep my commandments. John 14:15
