True Freedom: Independence Through Christ

A bird flies away from the open door of a birdcage, set against a blue sky with a rainbow and fluffy white clouds. Above the scene is a Bible verse from 2 Corinthians 3:17: "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” – John 8:3*

Every year on July 4th, Americans celebrate Independence Day—the moment a nation declared its freedom from tyranny and stood up for self-governance, liberty, and justice. It’s a powerful reminder of how precious freedom is.

But as Christians, we celebrate an even greater kind of independence—one that transcends national borders or political systems: freedom in Christ...

Beat The Heat

A Jack Russell Terrier wearing red sunglasses sits on a blue pool float by a lake on a bright, sunny day. Text on the image reads: "BEAT THE HEAT" in all capital letters.

"For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul." — Jeremiah 31:25

There is hot, and then there is hot! In extreme heat your body works extra hard to maintain a normal temperature, which can lead to death. In Canada, heat waves are the most common weather-related cause of death.

To stay cool during hot weather, prioritize hydration by drinking plenty of water, seek shade or air-conditioned spaces, and wear light, loose-fitting clothing. Taking cool showers or baths, using fans, and limiting strenuous activity can also help.

Steps to Christ: God's Love For Man

A mother blue jay perches on a branch, feeding her three nestlings in a nest, their beaks open wide. Text on the image reads: "God’s Love for Man."

Nature and revelation alike testify of God's love. Our Father in heaven is the source of life, of wisdom, and of joy. Look at the wonderful and beautiful things of nature. Think of their marvelous adaptation to the needs and happiness, not only of man, but of all living creatures. The sunshine and the rain, that gladden and refresh the earth, the hills and seas and plains, all speak to us of the Creator's love. It is God who supplies the daily needs of all His creatures. In the beautiful words of the psalmist—

   "The eyes of all wait upon Thee;
And Thou givest them their meat in due season.
    Thou openest Thine hand,
And satisfiest the desire of every living thing."
          — Psalm 145:15, 16.

NEWSTART: "T" Is For Trust

Three rock climbers ascend a steep vertical cliff. Above them is a Bible verse from Proverbs 3:5–6: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

Trust Principle

From the Seventh-day Adventist Diet

“Keep your wants, your joys, your sorrows, your cares, and your fears before God…. ‘The Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy.’ James 5:11. His heart of love is touched by our sorrows and even by our utterances of them…. Nothing that in any way concerns our peace is too small for Him to notice. There is no chapter in our experience too dark for Him to read; there is no perplexity too difficult for Him to unravel. No calamity can befall the least of His children, no anxiety harass the soul, no joy, cheer, no sincere prayer escape the lips, of which our heavenly Father is unobservant, or in which He takes no immediate interest. ‘He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds.’Psalm 147:3.” — Ellen White

As Seventh-day Adventist Christians we obviously believe in a higher power- God. We also believe in having a close and personal relationship with our savior and that in this relationship he cares for us and loves us immensely.

One of the SDA health principles is trusting in God. While trusting in God may not seem to be health related, we believe that trust is something that benefits our mental and emotional health. This in turn can benefit our overall physical health.

The Great Seal

The seal of the President of the United States. Below the seal are three lines of text: "Name: Donald Trump," "Title: President," and "Territory: United States of America."

"Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the 7th day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the 7th day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the 7th day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made." — Genesis 2:1-3

The seal of the president of the United States is used to mark correspondence from the president of the United States to the U.S. Congress, and is also used as a symbol of the presidency itself. The central design, based on the Great Seal of the United States first adopted by the U.S. Congress on June 20, 1782, is the official coat of arms of the U.S. presidency and also appears on the presidential flag.

A king’s seal is like a signature, password, and stamp of authority all in one—authenticating royal documents and protecting them from tampering. Historically, a king’s seal served as a symbol of the monarch's sovereign authority.

All royal seals—especially historical ones—tend to share three core elements that identify them as official and authoritative symbols of the monarch:

  • The monarch's name
  • The monarch's official title
  • A description of their domain

Did you know that God also has an official seal?
